Leveraging the Triggerise platform and behavioral insights for outcome-based financing of developmental aid
Online seminar (Zoom), Friday October 21st 2022, 12:00-13:00 (CET)
The Behavioural Insights Network (www.binnl.nl) and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) invite you to the seminar: Leveraging the Triggerise platform and behavioral insights for outcome-based financing of developmental aid.
Outcome-based financing
Frank van de Looij, senior policy officer at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Addis Abeba embassy, Ethiopia, will give a short introduction on outcome-based financing of developmental aid. The Dutch 2022 Official Development Assistance budget is €4,8 billion; how can that budget be used as effectively as possible? How can the MFA obtain objectives and work on Sustainable Development Goals such as good health and well-being? What can we do to monitor projects and adjust during the course of a project? And how does it align with the approaches mentioned in the new policy note for foreign trade and international development, like for instance localization?
Triggerise
Richard Matikanya, Chief Operating Officer of Triggerise, will elaborate on how they use technology to disrupt the charity sector. An online approach directly links the target group and care providers. Online nudges, rewards and reminders give people control over changing and sustaining new behaviour. The collected data enables donors such as the Dutch MFA to directly see the results. As everything is online, the approach is cheaper, scalable and positively changes the relationship a charity has with its donors.
One of the MFA’s objectives is improved sexual and reproductive health. Currently, there are 8 million unplanned pregnancies worldwide, 3 million unsafe abortions and 15,000 deaths from pregnancy or unsafe abortion. The online system Tiko helps young girls to get in touch with educators and agencies and how to get contraceptives. Young people across Africa are using Triggerise’s Tiko platform to make positive life decisions.
Panel discussion
Ample time is reserved for Q&A and a discussion. The two speakers will be joined for this panel discussion by Marco Gerritsen, senior policy officer at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bamako embassy, Mali.
The seminar is online and in English. Registration is open to all.
